There are just certain things that you should be doing when you retire. For example, you should buy orthopedic shoes, play golf and eat at chain restaurants, it’s just what retired people do.

If you were to have dinner at Applebee’s, you can bet that half of the tables are full of retirees. The same holds true for other chain restaurants including Chili’s, Golden Corral and Outback Steakhouse.

That might not be a big surprise. What is a surprise is that burgers and fries aren’t always the go-to options on the menu. The top menu picks for chain restaurants are a little unexpected. What is far less a surprise is that the most popular menu items aren’t always the healthiest choices.

When you think about Outback Steakhouse, the Bloomin’ Onion comes to mind. When someone mentions Burger King, you immediately think about the Whopper. Goldberg and Associates, your estate planning service in Atlanta, offers the most popular dishes at chain restaurants.

The Cheesecake Factory

With a menu that boasts over 200 dishes, it is difficult to believe that people can actually identify just one of their favorites. The winner of the most popular dish at The Cheesecake Factory is the Chicken Madeira. We are privy to this information because The Cheesecake Factory has confirmed this to be the most ordered item on the menu.

P.F. Chang’s

The sheer number of Asian dishes at this chain restaurant is enough to leave your head spinning and a craving for potstickers. Retirees who frequent this establishment have a clear favorite item on the menu: The Mongolian Style Beef. We cannot disagree with this choice. Please pass the wontons.

Applebee’s

Gather the family and head on over to Applebee’s to indulge in the Shrimp-N-Parmesan Sirloin. But only if you are super hungry and you aren’t watching your calorie intake. The 9-ounce steak and grilled shrimp topped with sticky cheese might not be a very healthy choice, but it does come with a side of vegetables. That should count for something.

Red Robin

Get a table at Red Robin and take a look around. Odds are that most of the retirees dining there are eating the same dish; the Whiskey River BBQ Burger. If you are a fan of hamburgers, the Whiskey River BBQ is for you. This is a juicy hamburger drenched in BBQ sauce and served with onion straws and a slice of cheese. This culinary masterpiece includes Red Robin’s signature never-ending fries. Awesome.

Bonefish Grill

If you frequent Bonefish Grill a couple of times a month, you are probably in the habit of mixing up the appetizers and main courses to keep from getting into a rut. But you also probably order the Big Bang Shrimp more often than not. This is a simple dish that consists of crunchy shrimp seasoned with a unique blend of spices. It is rather difficult to explain the dish in words, it is a dish you need to experience first hand.

Carrabba’s

Carrabba’s Italian Grill is a chain restaurant that serves great Italian cuisine. They offer several types of dishes, but one that everybody seems to enjoy is the Chicken Bryan. The Chicken Bryon is wood-grilled chicken topped with goat cheese, sun-dried tomatoes and spiked with a lemon-butter sauce. We can hear you drooling.

T.G.I. Friday’s

Not that anybody would openly admit it, but the favorite dish at T.G.I. Friday’s is the fried potato shells filled to the brim with cheese and bacon. The menu at T.G.I. Friday’s is full of excellent dishes, yet the potato shells are a fan favorite.

Olive Garden

It might not feel like Italy when you step into an Olive Garden location, but the food will certainly have you thinking you are in Italy. The most popular plate at Olive Garden is the Tour of Italy.

The Tour of Italy combines three amazing dishes, fettuccine alfredo, lasagna and chicken parmesan all on one large platter. And since they offer unlimited salad and breadsticks, you will leave feeling quite full. Be careful or they might have to wheel you away from the table after such a meal.

Red Lobster

When the hostess seats you at Red Lobster, you are in for a real treat. Anyone who has been to Red Lobster knows what happens next; they bring you a basket of cheese biscuits. Now, everyone knows that you go to Red Lobster to indulge in some yummy seafood. Just don’t tell anybody you are there for the cheese biscuits.

Denny’s

If you find yourself at Denny’s on a lovely Friday evening, you should at least try the Fried Cheese Melt. This is a grilled cheese sandwich made with American cheese and fried mozzarella sticks stuck between two slices of sourdough bread. We’ll pass but you feel free to give it a try.
